Night Fare 2009 | 5 mins (trailer below)
In the dead of a lonely night Melbourne's Punjabi taxi drivers meet post shift at the Red Pepper Indian Restaurant. They find solidarity and companionship by sharing the food, language, music and culture of their homeland. Night Fare follows one driver as he steps out of the night and into the bustle of this early morning scene. What emerges is an impression of a lively pocket of a culture establishing itself in the heart of a sleeping metropolis.
Night Fare was created as part of the Graduate Diploma of Film and Television (Documentary) at the Victorian College of the Arts and Music, Melbourne. It received the school's Award for Most Daring and Innovative Production (non-fiction) and has been selected to screen in the First Factual Film Festival (F4) at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) in February 2010.
Both a short film and an online documentary, more information about the film plus video interviews with taxi drivers can be found at the Night Fare website – www.nightfare.com.au.
Mortal Boys 2009 | 4.5 mins

Mortal Boys is a short documentary film exploring male teenage violence. Four Australian men tell their story of being attacked by strangers. The film contrasts these stories with a montage of a Melbourne tram stop. It captures an impression of how public places can quickly transform into an abject reality for adolescent men.
